William Penn celebrates Black History Month

Ascendancy care of Black History Time, William Penn University appreciative influential African-Americans throughout campus.

Alpha Eta Omega, a sorority on campus spent February informing students of Black History now their service project.

Their first off assignment involved creating posters to beget awareness. Each friend selected an African-American who has had an collision on society. They provided a photograph and a short apologue and placed the posters access hallways around campus.

The Alphas again set up a booth influence Penn Hall footing they attentive students to participate agency learning about Charcoal History time by offering laurels to those who could answer trivia questions agnate being "Who fake peanut butter?"

Amanda Alabaster, an active bedfellow, spoken, "The thought for this project was short attention but we wanted our service project to posses an undying backwash of the student body and this was the full breaks."

Alabaster besides commented on the pleasant reactions girl overheard from students and faculty. "We arrangement on action this every year, but each year will be better than the last."

The Alphas even reached out to those in the community who are not students at William Penn University. The sisters tied black, red, green, and yellow ribbons on the trees on North Market Street so that Oskaloosa could see the pride that William Penn takes in Black History month.

The Wilcox Library also contributed to celebrating Black History month. The foyer was filled with books, posters, and other items to direct students attention.

A birthday party was also held for Martin Luther King Jr. which included cake and refreshments to encourage students to visit the display.

Katie Miller, a student who works in the library, said that she noticed many students taking the time to look at the display and leaving with a new understanding for Black History month.
