Deputies Searching For Robbery Suspects
The sheriff's office just put up posters Friday at several businesses in the same area. The movie posters show two suspects robbing the clerk at gunpoint at the Metro Cell store on Curry Ford Road. Detectives are offering a 1000 dollar reward for information leading to the arrests of the two suspects, described as Hispanic men ages 18 to 20.
The surveillance video shows one suspect taking money from the cash register. The other suspect is holding a black handgun. Detectives say he pistol whipped the store clerk with it before the two suspects ran out of the store. The clerk fought back. He swatted the gun out of the suspect's hand and ended up chasing the two men down the street with it.
We talked to a woman who works at the dry cleaners next door and watched it all go down.
"I was thinking, why is the guy running after him?" she said. "Then he came back and I asked him what happened, and he said the two guys came and took the money."
The store clerk did not want to be identified, because he wants to protect his family. He told us he has some kick boxing training, and he used it to swat the gun from the suspect. He says the suspects were young, and it's a shame they risked their futures for the small amount of money they got.
Detectives recovered a 22 caliber black, Smith and Wesson hand gun and eight bullets. They also have the surveillance video and fingerprints to work with.
