Outdoor Advertisers Toughen On Illegal Posters

The National Outdoor Advertising Contractors Association has threatened to sue companies and concert promoters who stick posters on outdoor advertising tools and structures.

Mpagi Ssewanyana, the association's publicity secretary, was furious that the movie posters contradicted advertising ethics.

"We wake up in the morning only to find competing concepts on stands of billboards demeaning the authorised paid-up messages of our clients," Ssewanyana said.

He explained: "You can not stick Bell beer promoting posters on Nile beer billboard stems and vice versa."

Ssewanyana disclosed that it was illegal to stick posters on outdoor advertising tools and structures such as billboard stands, suburb signs and authorised painted roofs.

This practice, he said, spoils the quality of the surfaces, making it costly to maintain them.

The association is also mobilising building owners affected by this vice to be part of the campaign.Relevant Links

"This illegal habit has not spared even tree stems and roundabout flower pots. It is costly to paint and keep structures clean," Ssewanyana said.

Ssewanyana also warned lorry owners with flexels of advertising messages.

"These materials are stolen from the advertising companies, leading to misuse of the companies' brand colours. All printed advert flexels are properties of the advertising companies. It is illegal to be exposed in any way without their approval and conscious," Ssewanyana said.
