Railway Buffs Create Wartime Memories On Highland Line

Passengers aboard the Strathspey Railway were transported back in time as it celebrated with a 1940s weekend.

Stations along the 10-mile line were decked out to look the part, with taped windows and movie posters from the wartime 40s, on Saturday and Sunday.

Staff and passengers also got in the mood by dressing up in military and civilian clothes of the period.

There were also aircraft flypasts, military and vintage vehicles, model displays and exhibitions.

A grand dance also took place at the Boat Hotel, Boat of Garten, on Saturday evening.

At Aviemore Station an Exhibition of World War II posters and memorabilia, plus model aircraft and tanks from the Forres and Kinloss Model Club were on display.

Meanwhile, at Boat of Garten station there was an exhibition of period military vehicles and a flypast of three aircraft, a Tiger Moth, Piper Cub, and Cessna. At Broomhill Station there was an exhibition of an American command post in France.

Yesterday, children from Deshar Primary School, who arrived by vintage bus, were processed as evacuees and traveled on to Broomhill. There was also a visit from the RAFA one-third scale Spitfire as a static display, followed by the Evening Hymn and Sunset, with the lowering of the flag.
