The group is a chapter of the Western Film Preservation Society, which is based in Charlotte and sponsors an annual film fair there. The local chapter was named after Ed Wyatt, a beloved founding member and first president of the society, who died in 1999.

The group meets every month except July, August and December to watch movies, listen to cowboy music and talk about the films.

B-western star Peggy Stewart attended the 25th anniversary celebration. Big movie posters showing dashing cowboys starring in movies such as " The Fighting Redhead, " " Two Guns and a Badge, " and " Desert Patrol " sat on long tables. Group members showed off some of their other cowboy collections.

They travel from across the state, and sometimes even farther, to attend the meetings.

" It's such an eclectic group of people, " said Ann Thompson of Raleigh, who has been attending the meetings for about five years with her husband and came wearing a hat and boots. " Doctors, lawyers, dentists, teachers, professionals. It's just something we look forward to once a month. "
