8 Arrested For Pasting Posters Against Elangovan
More than 15 Congress workers led by Elangovan had damaged the banners containing portraits of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran, erected by the Thamizhaga Thozhilalar Munnani to mark Maveerar Dhinam on Friday.
In this connection, police arrested 10 people on Saturday.
They were later remanded in judicial custody.
The police allegedly did not take any action on the complaint of the Munnani that the Congressmen had damaged their banners and had threatened to kill them.
The RYF activists, who are closely associated with the Munnani, were protesting against the apathy shown by police towards the Munnani’s grievances.
These activists stuck posters in many areas of the town on Saturday, demanding immediate arrest of Elangovan and other Congressmen.
The police arrested Madheswaran, Muthujeevandam, Muthu, Ravikumar, Balaji, Thamizhselvan, Vijayakumar and Kumaravel under Section 153 of the IPC on the ground that these persons were acting in favour of an outlawed movement and were creating social tension.
