Bogus Posters Appear In Howard Paxi Area
The posters were tacked in various locations throughout Howard, Coaldale and Cotopaxi. The author of the poster has not come forward.
The movie posters read, "Cotopaxi road and bridge shop and crew are being consolidated into the Ca?on City shop," and "Equipment is scheduled to be sold."
Norden said information on the signs "simply isn't true." He said he believes the rumor may stem from a recent action involving commissioners and road and bridge department foremen to find ways to operate more efficiently.
Fremont road foremen have been talking with bridge department personnel in Teller, Prowers and Chaffee counties.
Fremont foremen are considering ways to improve the department, Norden said.
However, "I have no knowledge of wanting to close the shop," Norden said. "There are too many vital services that require response in that area."
Commissioners anticipate a question as to whether each of four county shops should have the same equipment. Norden said some equipment is used only once or twice each year. Sharing equipment among shops may reduce maintenance costs.
Fremont road and bridge department may consider pooling personnel when necessary.
"I would guess anything we do for road and bridge would not be put into place until April," Norden said. In addition, "Nothing we do will affect services - especially snow removal."
Norden asked whoever posted the flyers to take them down, or at least take credit for them.
Fremont road and bridge department personnel maintain 579 miles of paved and gravel road. The Cotopaxi shop maintains about 145 miles of paved and gravel roads.
