LP Pampanga Bets Remove Illegal Campaign Posters

LIBeral Party candidates in Pampanga on Tuesday started removing campaign posters of the party's standard-bearer, Sen. Benigno Aquino III, and his running mate, Sen. Manuel Roxas II, outside designated poster areas.

Gov. Eddie Panlilio, LP provincial chair, led other candidates in removing campaign materials nailed or hung on trees in Barangay Baliti.

Panlilio said these will be transferred to places designated by the Commission on Elections as common poster areas.

"The ruling of Comelec to designate specific places where movie posters can be put is being disregarded by politicians and [their] supporters. We do not want to violate that," Panlilio said.

He said trees should be given dignity and spared from campaign posters "especially now that people are becoming ecologically conscious."

"I have talked to the supporters of the LP to take out illegal campaign posters. I just hope other political parties will do the same," he said.

Lawyer Temie Lambino, provincial election supervisor, said posters on trees and in public buildings, bridges, wires or posts are prohibited.
