Little Fire Ants Information Displayed On Maui Bus

Mayor Charmaine Tavares announced today that the Little Fire Ant Working Group is working together with the County's Department of Transportation to raise public awareness.

Informational posters regarding the invasive species discovered on Maui in October 2009 will be displayed on all Maui buses.

"The goal is to spread this information faster than the ants spread themselves, this invasive species is a significant threat, and it's important that we stay focused on early detection," said Mayor Tavares.

The bus movie posters are part of a bigger outreach program that is in development, including a video, public service announcements, trainings for targeted public groups, Web site, and education in the classrooms.
