Comelec Unfair In Implementing Rules On Campaign Posters

The camp of Bangon Pilipinas standard-bearer Eduardo Villanueva accused the Commission on Elections of being unfair in implementing its own rules on campaign posters and materials.

"Bangon Pilipinas will comply with whatever legal rules and requirements Comelec is validly mandated to enforce. We trust Comelec will enforce its rules uniformly and consistently," said Bangon Pilipinas secretary general Ted Pascua.

Pascua was reacting to the possible disqualification of Villanueva from the presidential race for his alleged oversized campaign movie posters along Edsa.

He said a big billboard of Villanueva in the busy shopping district of Quiapo, Manila, was already dismantled the first time the Comelec warned of billboards beyond the requisites of the law allow.

A billboard in Balintawak, Quezon City, is still up because it is one of Bangon Pilipinas headquarters.

"Hence, we have a huge billboard there," Pascua added.

For his part, the party's national campaign manager Lyndon Cana said they have yet to received a formal communication from the Comelec regarding the alleged campaign posters outside the designated common poster areas.

Cana said that Comelec rules are not being applied fairly among all candidates.

"A supporter of genuine change has volunteered to put up a poster of Bangon Pilipinas' presidential candidate Bro. Eddie Villanueva. Now, this poster advocating for change is being used to threaten Bro. Eddie of disqualification. Why zero in on this poster? Who is afraid of change?," Cana said.
