Poster Protest Takes Root At Seaford Heights
About 70 election posters of the sitting member have been scattered across the site - along with a big sign reading "Rishworth = Urban Sprawl" - in a display which can be seen by motorists driving along Victor Harbor Rd.
The Fairmont Group development, which is proposed for the 77ha site between Victor Harbor and Main South roads, has received strong backlash from the neighbouring McLaren Vale grape, wine and tourism industries.
Industry leaders say the 1130-house development will spoil the rural character of the region and deter tourists from visiting.
Ms Rishworth labelled the stunt as a "smear campaign" and "dirty election tactics", saying it misrepresented her stance on the issue.
"I have advocated on behalf of local residents to the council and the Minister for Planning and I have been working with the grape, wine and tourism industry on this issue," she said.
The Fairmont Group bought the land from the State Government in 2008 and Onkaparinga Council is working on the Development Plan Amendment for the site. The Federal Government has not played a role in the suburb's development.
Ms Rishworth said she had reported the issue to the police because the movie posters had been removed without her permission and put on private property.
McLaren Vale Grape, Wine and Tourism Association chairman Dudley Brown said he had no idea who the culprit was but it "sounded like it was worth a drive to check it out".
