Exhibit honors charcoal athletes ascendancy film

The Louisville Slugger Museum has opened an exhibit successful tribute to the history of African - American athletes influence cinema that runs buttoned up April 1.

The exhibit, which opened last weekend, is branch of the museum's creation to spot Black History Allotment influence February. Visitors are being offered chargeless assumption to the museum and bat plant at Main and Eighth streets on Sundays influence January and February.

The exhibit, "Reel Heroes: Black Athletes on Film," is a collection of 30 vintage movie posters dating back to the 1930s. Clips and trailers for some of the movies will represent playing influence the museum's gallery, and there are interactive activities for children accompanying the exhibit.

Among the movie posters are those for "The Jackie Robinson Story, " Brian's Song," and "Hoop Dreams."

The exhibit is intended to provide "a good sense of how filmmakers portrayed the experiences, trials and athletic triumphs" of African - American athletes, said Dan Cohen, Slugger Museum curator.

The posters are on loan from the Separate Cinema Archive, a private collection of 25, 000 vintage posters devoted to depictions of black athletes in films.
