Brand-new film fest ascendancy works

When a team of movie buffs learned they had the alike abstraction access creativity -- a film jamboree influence Saginaw -- they decided to put their thoughts into agility.

Today they announced the birth of the Riverside Saginaw Film Carnival, hide plans to exposition 17 movies 41 times at six Saginaw venues, Thursday, June 21, buttoned up Sunday, June 24.

Riverside Saginaw takes its name from the fact five of the six venues where the movies will play are part of a loop on the Saginaw River on both sides of the city: The Temple Theatre, the Castle, Pit and Balcony Community Theatre, The 303 Collective and the Old Saginaw City Lawn Chair Film Festival. The Court Theatre is just a short distance away.

" And historically there was a Riverside Park in Saginaw, which was a summertime venue and showed movies, " recalls Hensinger, 65.

All six of the locations also are partners in the venture and are planning the non-film events that are a part of the event.

Hensinger, Maul and Thomas F. Trombley, the third movie buff who came up with the idea, now are part of a nine-member board that oversees the film festival's development and fundraising.

" We are an all-volunteer effort, " says Maul, 45, " and we want to stress we will need the participation of the entire community in this. "
