2012 Kentucky Derby Festival Poster Unveiled
Several hundred guests attended the unveiling of the movie posters created by local artist Andre Foreman, a self-taught visual artist and sculptor with studio space at the Mellwood Arts Center.
Festival spokesman Mark Shallcross said this is the first year that the festival poster has come in three versions:
The Limited edition, which features a stylized Pegasus image on a white background and is signed and numbered, retails for $75.
The Pegasus edition, which also features a stylized Pegasus image with an orange border, sells for $30.
The Festival edition, which features a collage of traditional Derby Festival events, sells for $30.
The posters are available at Bluegrass Frames and online at www.kdf.org. Official Derby Festival merchandise is also available at the website and at Kroger, Walmart and Meijer stores, and Taste of Kentucky locations.
The Poster Premiere, which featured cocktails and hors d'oeuvres, included a silent auction of framed 2012 posters, as well as a silent auction of several items and gift packages.
For the sixth year in a row, the Poster Premiere was held in conjunction with the Kentucky Derby Festival Student Art Contest Awards Ceremony. Students with winning entries were invited to the premiere to see their work on display.
