The Task Force's project relied primarily on posters that featured messages along with student art. Moran and other Task Force members worked with student focus groups to refine the messages and select the artwork. Posters went up during the past school year. A message also was printed on pencils for students.
" We've been working primarily through focus groups and intercept interviews. Initial survey data confirmed predictions based on the social norms model, with overestimations of negative dating behaviors and underestimations of healthy dating behaviors occurring in the sample, " Moran said, adding that a formal evaluation of the project's success will not be possible until a second survey is administered in January.
" This is a wonderful program because we are trying to fight different myths by doing it in a positive way instead of a negative way. It's a wonderful program because you are not talking about how horrible things are, but how the real life is often better than our assumptions, " Moran said.
